Certified Labor & Birth Doula, Trained Lactation Counselor

Mikayla Detrick

My name is Makayla Detrick. I grew up in the beautiful Redwoods of Northern California. I am married to my wonderful husband who is in the United States Navy. My husband and I spent the last two years in San Diego, California where I started my Doula work. I volunteered for an Operation Doula program where I supported military families before, during and after their births. I have loved every bit of each experience with all of the families that I have supported.

In July of 2020 I moved to Ewa Beach, Hawaii where my husband and I purchased our first home together. We do not have any children yet, but we absolutely would love to have kids in the future. I have been very motivated to support families who are bringing their new babies into the world for many years now. I have always had a passion for helping birthing mothers. I knew I wanted to either become a midwife or labor and delivery nurse. While my husband and I move around to different locations with the military, I felt it was best for my career to hold off on finishing school for a few years.

I started hearing about how amazing Doulas are and I immediately knew that this job is something I was destined for. I feel it is my responsibility as a doula to help support mothers and their partners physically and emotionally. I want you to have the best experience possible. My goal is to provide you with the information that you need to make decisions that best support your expectations for your birth. I am here to advocate for you and to strengthen your birth experience. I can talk with you and your partner about your goals for your labor and delivery stay.

I am a Certified DONA International Birth Doula. I have been a Birth Doula since 2019  and have had the privilege to support families at different hospitals and at a wonderful birth center in California. I also would love to help families in the early postpartum days after having their baby. I know how important this time is. Sometimes as first time parents or a family that has other children, it can be challenging to get things done around the home. I am here to make things easier on you during your postpartum journey. I am currently working towards getting my Certified Lactation Counselor Certification. I am very excited to work with you and your family!

When I am not supporting families as a Doula, I love to make different crafts with my sewing machine or woodworking tools. I also really enjoy getting outside, going to the beach, swimming in the ocean, going on a hike, and even exploring new shops on the Island. I love being able to spend time with friends and family. Congratulations on such an amazing time in your lives! Thank you for considering me as your Doula. I look forward to supporting you and your partner.
