Novice Doula

Trained Birth Doula

Hi, my name is McKayla Allen. When I became pregnant with my daughter, I was so excited to embark on the journey of motherhood. I became so fascinated with pregnancy and birth, I found myself researching everyday. It was hard to hear negative birth stories from friends and family, and it made me fearful for my own upcoming birth. I had a healthy pregnancy with no compilations and yet my birth in the hospital seemed to end in a similar way. This left my husband and I both a bit heart broken because we felt very prepared walking in. I realized how women and partners are in such a vulnerable state during labor, and how things don't always go as planned. Having informed consent shouldnt be a luxury, but a requirement. I wished I had someone else there advocating for my choices/preferences. After that I quickly knew that it was my calling to become a doula, and be that voice that I so desperately needed.

It is my goal to help women take control of their births again, something we have done since the dawn of time. I specifically want to focus on providing resources for radical childbirth education as a means to empower women and bring back physiological birth. I want to take away the narrative that we should fear birth and the pain, as it’s something we have all been conditioned to think since we were young girls. No matter your choices of pain management, place of birth, or who you choose to be present, there is so much empowerment to be offered through education and support. Birth is an amazing spiritual experience for a woman entering motherhood. Body autonomy should be respected at all costs and we should be given the opportunity to let our bodies go through its own innate power. We are given this amazing gift to create life, and with it, we deserve to be given an experience that is supportive.

When I am not supporting families as a doula, I am a stay at home mom to a wonderful girl named Laina. Some of my hobbies are reading, gardening, cooking and baking, or whipping up another herbal remedy. I am also a sun lover, so I might be lying on the beach or swimming in some waves! Becoming a mother was the start of my spiritual journey, and I am very open about my experiences and what I have learned. This journey was a major factor in moving my family to this magical little island we call home.

It would be an amazing honor to be chosen by your family to participate in the most intimate experience of your family's lives. Your journey into motherhood should only belong to you and your baby, and with that I promise to support you in all your decisions as I am there to honor and respect you. Mahalo!
