Tyra Fonseca-Smith

Novice Doula

Trained Birth Doula, Certified Indigenous Breastfeeding Counselor

Aloha! My name is Tyra Fonseca-Smith, born and raised in Puʻuloa, Oʻahu and I currently reside in the ahupuaʻa of Mānana with my husband and daughter Emalani. From a young age I loved babies and taking care of others and I have had the opportunity to grow up around amazing women and mothers. Nine years ago I attended the birth of my niece and I was instantly hooked on birth and breastfeeding.

Fast forward to today, I have learned and am continuing my education in traditional Native Hawaiian Practices such as ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language), Pule (prayer), Oli (chant), and am studying more in-depth of traditional Native Hawaiian Birth and breastfeeding Practices.

I am Indigenous Breastfeeding Counselor and Birth Doula and I aim to serve the community of Hawaiʻi to support and empower birth and breastfeeding. As a birth doula, my kuleana (responsibility) to families is to support an empowered and informed birth experience by assisting with birth & postpartum plans and preparation and attending the births to ensure their wishes are carried out through the process.

I am excited for the opportunity to support the community through birth work and empowerment! I am currently accepting clients with due dates through July 2022.

Hoʻomaikaʻi (congratulations) to your ʻohana during a magical and sacred time! Mahalo nui!
